  • Once the blueberries are mushy and the juice is syrupy; lower the heat and simmer the mixture for about 15 minutes; stirring regularly.
  • Using a fine-mesh strainer; pour the blueberry mixture into a large pitcher while pressing down on the solids to squeeze out as much juice as you can. Save the solids for later use or discard them.
  • Stir in the lemon juice and the final 3 cups of water to the pitcher.
  • If necessary
  • taste and adjust the sweetness or acidity.
  • Serve the lemonade over ice or chill in the refrigerator. If desired; add mint leaves and lemon slices as a garnish.
